“Three millennial girls who, sharing an apartment, learn to live and fight for their dreams.”

Ana, a sweet and naive young woman who has just finished college in northern Mexico, moves to Mexico City to become the writer she has always dreamed of being. She rents a room in an apartment shared by Erika, a medical intern, and Inés, a Spanish fashion designer, and takes a job as a waitress to get by.

While she writes her novel, an old-fashioned courtly romance, Ana keeps a diary about life with her new roommates, who are leading her down paths she never imagined. Her growth shows in its pages, where she records all of her secrets and her friends’, until the diary becomes a very interesting, and very indiscreet, object.

Most of the story takes place inside the girls’ apartment: through what they tell each other and through flashbacks, we get to know their lives and everyone around them, in the spirit of series such as Gilmore Girls, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother and Lovesick.

  • Ana

    Aspiring writer · 21

    Sweet, innocent and a little fragile, she hides behind glasses she barely needs for reading. Her humble, close-knit family supports her, though they worry when she moves to Mexico City. With no money from home, she works while writing the novel she hopes will let her write full time. Inexperienced in life, she lets her roommates introduce her to everything, from her first hangover to nightlife, dating and love, and writes it all down in her diary behind their backs, maturing almost without noticing.

  • Erika

    Medical intern · 24

    Good-looking without caring about it, serious and hardworking but generous and kind. She is training to become a urologist. She comes from a wealthy Mexico City family but keeps her distance: her father wanted her to marry his law partner’s son, and she chose medical school instead. Refusing the family money, she rents out the spare rooms of her apartment. Her strong character scares men off, which doesn’t worry her, until love turns her life upside down and she needs her roommates to get through it.

  • Inés

    Fashion designer · 25

    Not conventionally pretty, but she loves dressing up and it pays off. A Spaniard who came to Mexico City to work in fashion, she is open, liberal, empowered and modern. She enjoys parties and romances without apology and often drags her roommates into trouble. She can seem superficial at first, but turns out to be a sensitive girl who doesn’t want to get hurt. When she finds true love she will suffer as never before, and with her friends’ help she will come out the other side.

  • Gertrudis

    Landlady · About 60

    Unfriendly, with a permanent look of disapproval. The roommates’ landlady and neighbor spends her days watching them so they don’t throw parties and behave like good Christian girls. A childless widow, she has made it her mission to straighten out her three wild tenants.

  • Guadalupe

    Housekeeper · About 50

    Funny and very capable, she always restores order after the girls’ parties. Wise in her own way, she adores the girls, gives them good advice, looks after them and keeps them well fed.

  • Adolfo

    Restaurant manager · 40

    Handsome but not very bright, he runs the restaurant where Ana waits tables. A smooth talker who seems to know everything about life, he quickly dazzles the young writer, but he is a liar and a manipulator who uses his experience to win her over.

  • Roberto

    Ana’s older brother · About 30

    Handsome, strong, cheerful and noble, he always supports his sister and thinks living with the other two girls will help her grow into a great writer. He ends up falling in love with Inés, but it won’t end well.

  • Fernando

    Erika’s charming colleague at the hospital, with whom she is secretly in love, though he doesn’t seem to notice. A confirmed bachelor who has dated half the hospital, except Erika. Little by little they fall for each other, but he doesn’t know how to be faithful.

    Elegant and haughty, she is the only one in the family still in touch with Erika, since her father refuses to speak to her. She keeps trying to bring her daughter home, disapproves of her relationships, especially with her roommates, and will do anything to split the three friends apart.

    A grumpy, easily frightened hypochondriac who always turns up at Erika’s office with a pile of imaginary ailments. In truth he has been alone since his wife died and goes to the doctor to have someone to talk to. Erika ends up befriending him, and he becomes an ally in the girls’ crazy adventures.

    Beautiful and cold, Inés’s direct boss at the fashion house is ruthless and ambitious. She sees Inés as a rival for her job and does everything she can to make her life impossible.

  1. Ana moves to Mexico City to become a writer and ends up living with Erika and Inés, two girls who have nothing in common with her. The three share hilarious adventures, though their landlady disapproves of their lifestyle and threatens to evict them for not paying the rent.

  2. Erika’s mother saves them from eviction by pressuring her daughter into speaking to her father again. Ana keeps writing her novel, “The Courtesan of Love”, and when she discovers that her roommates secretly read it to laugh at her, she storms out of the apartment. The other two try to make amends by helping her with her boyfriend, who turns out to be a married man.

  3. Erika falls for a new doctor at the hospital, a womanizer who will bring her nothing but trouble. Ana invites Inés to spend Christmas with her family, and Inés falls in love with Ana’s brother, though Ana won’t let them be together. On a date, a police officer finds Ana’s diary, tells her it’s a great story and that his sister is an editor; thinking he means “The Courtesan of Love”, Ana sends her that manuscript.

  4. The editor shows Ana that the real novel is the diary, but she is afraid to expose her roommates’ lives. She starts writing it anyway. Her brother Roberto finds a job in Mexico City and begins a relationship with Inés, but he dies of cancer, bringing the girls even closer. Erika starts dating Fernando, her fellow doctor. When Ana decides to publish the diary as a novel, the friendship between the three breaks apart.

  5. The girls aren’t speaking. Ana’s book is a big success, Erika now lives with a boyfriend who cheats on her constantly, and Inés has kept the apartment and runs a small sewing workshop. When Ana visits her, they make peace: Inés confesses she has Roberto’s frozen sperm and wants to have his child. Together they help Erika leave her disastrous relationship, and the three end up back in the apartment, this time with a baby.
